Hey friends,
my name is ALexander, and all of this is new to me.
I suppose I’m engaging with this prompt as a means of working out the answer for my own clarity, being that it’s my own curiosity that spawned it, and not one found in our unformed faq section. this greater idea is not at full mast on my mind’s flagpole. Not yet, and i claim a spiritual aversion to defining, which i will bear if a path to this ambition’s fruit reveals itself through my writing this. I’m very grateful at the idea of you reading this.
my friends and i love to make music, and that’s as simply as i can put it. whether together or independently, it’s the most fulfilling and assuring act of being that exists for us, and certainly for a beautifully endless river of others alive as well. bless you, if so. and bless you if not so.
my friends, specifically Cole, gavin, james, and ryne are remarkable people, and damn fun musicians. One form of us or another has been writing songs and playing shows together for the better part of a few years, and recently, we’ve been staring out and reaching out and crying out and trying to find a way forward. a structure. a repeatable process. a community. something tangible, with no fear and a lot of shareable experience. i think that is what we hope for lava rock to be.
lava rock is the name of our band, but more than that, it’s the name of a broader arrangement. A space that can serve as a distributive foundation for not only the output of our band, but also for the output of the band’s individuals, and possibly for other artists down the line. every solo album released by myself, cole, gavin, james, or any combination of us will be found here at lava rock. any and all physical media, clothing, or other merchandise will be found here. music videos, album artwork, and photos will be found here, and various writings as well, literally here at the rift zone.
furthermore, we want to create expansive, enjoyable, and collaborative live experiences. truly little is more enriching than a live music experience that loosens your limbs and deepens your breath. speaking for myself, i crave it joyously. through lava rock, we want to host live events that showcase not only thoughtful and badass music, but thoughtful and badass art from a diversity of mediums. Visual arts, dancing, fiber arts and clothing, tea accompaniments, and dozens of ideas that aren’t mine and don’t exist yet! Broadly, we want a vast space that is intimate. a cosmic movement that is grounded. an easy walk to openness.
and we are wide open. please reach out to us with any interests or advice. we are so nude here, and i feel vague doubts about the effort that is being put forth, but it feels so good to really try at something i love.
thank you, where you are.
hoping to erupt before too long.
